Express Entry

What is Express Entry?

Express Entry is a system used by the Canadian government to manage applications for Canadian permanent residence through several key economic immigration programs. It is designed to select skilled workers for immigration to Canada. Express Entry is notable for its efficiency and the relatively quick processing times for applications.

1. Federal skilled worker

Your work experience must be:
In the same type of job as your primary NOC within the last 10 years
Skill type 0, or skill levels A or B of the 2016 National Occupational Classification (NOC)
Language ability: get a minimum score of Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 7 in all four abilities
The current pass mark is 67 points. Age, education, work experience whether you have a valid job offer

2. Federal skilled trades

have at least two years of full-time work experience (or an equal amount of part-time work experience) in a skilled trade within the five years before you apply
Language ability: meet the minimum language level of Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 5 for speaking and listening, and Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 4 for reading and writing
have an offer of full-time employment for a total period of at least one year or a certificate of qualification in that skilled trade issued by a Canadian provincial or territorial authority

3. Canadian Experience Class

To be eligible for the CEC, you need to have Canadian skilled work experience within three years of applying
Managerial jobs (NOC skill level 0), Professional jobs (NOC skill type A) Technical jobs and skilled trades (NOC skill type B)
Language ability: Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 7 for NOC 0 or A jobs OR Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 5 for NOC B jobs

The CRS scores of all profiles in the pool will be updated automatically before the next invitation round after the updates. This could take up to two weeks.

Your NAtional Occupation Classification (NOC) code is the number the job is listed under in Canada’s official job classification system.

Your primary occupation means the job you have experience in (within the last ten years) and want base your immigration application on, if you are invited to apply.

No, a work permit is not a job offer. A job offer is valid if your current of future employer:

  • has made a written offer to give you a full-name, non-seasonal job for one year or more if you are accepted as a permanent resident and
  • has a positive Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) from Employment and social Development Canada
